Big thanks to my buddy Pat for sending me this pic!
Mince Pie Fest 2024: Waitrose (Un-Numbered)
-
The pastry has a bit of a salty taste, and I'm not a fan of salt, but
otherwise it has a decent flavour and a good, firm, texture. The filling is
beautiful...
Thanks for nothing else than pointing out who Syd Mead is; I've obviosuly seen and enjoyed his work for a chunk of my life, but never knew the guy existed.
ReplyDeleteHmm I meant "if for nothing else" ..don't want to appear snippy :)
ReplyDeleteBee-yoo-tiful.
ReplyDeleteRADICAL.
ReplyDeleteThis style is familiar to me.... did Mead do some of the technical artwork for FASA in the 80s-90s?
ReplyDeleteI have always loved Syd Mead's work, but this one reminds me of the Big Trak toy back in the 80's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Trak), with and additional set of wheels in the front.
ReplyDelete@Erin: Mead is too great a name to draw for FASA. In fact, who you think of are probalbly Dana Knutson and Deitrick, both among MANY others who have been inspired by Mead.
ReplyDeleteMead invented that shit. The others, ,as much as I love em are, just illlustrators
First I was all like "Syd Mead?";
ReplyDeletethen (after GIS) I was all like "Syd Mead!!!1!!eleventy!"
I have the book of designs that he did for Bladerunner. Terrific book and worth tracking down if you can.
ReplyDeleteLOVE Syd and this illustration is further proof of his brilliance. Great find Jeff!
ReplyDeleteAh Sid Mead. There used to be some great books of his artwork. Sadly I think they're now all out of print/really expensive. :(
ReplyDeleteAnyway, if you like sf artwork generally (viz ships, vehicles etc) I can recommend the Concept Ships site for some great artwork (http://conceptships.blogspot.com/)
