One of my best fantasy campaigns started as me using the map from AH's Battle of Italy and improvising everything from there.
I love repurposing old wargame maps. You get a pretty realistic terrain picture, and if you concentrate on operational-level games, your players probably won't recognize what you're swiping from.
Many old wargame maps are available for viewing on boardgamegeek, some (especially recent games for which digital art is available) quite high in resolution.
