An experiment

Audience participation time! Below are four images from a comic book that you've probably never heard of. In the comments section below I want you to guess the age of this character, if you would please. On Friday I will reveal the actual answer.

And if by some amazing coincidence you are actually familiar with this comic, please no spoilers!

  1. 13? I am guessing low because the answer to this kind of question usually suprises the participants, but she seems 17/18.

  2. My guess was going to be 14 for the reason stated above. Either that or 6 million years old for the same reason.

  3. I will say 12 for the same reasons as above (though I suspect 14 is the answer).

  4. I too was thinking 13.

I guess I'll go 12 since lots have already taken 13, unless this like Price is Right, then I'll guess 1 day!!!!!

    So either 12 or 58

  7. I'd have to say 18.

  8. I'm going with 16. It was just my first guess, and I find that I second-guess myself too much, so I'm sticking with my first guess this time.

  9. Low End Guess: 11.

    High End Guess: 45.

Looks wise, she could pass as 14 or even 25 or a bit older.

PS: My Word Verification mix was nwatmnt. Now that's a comic I would read.

  10. Actually fourteen, drawn to look older.

  11. First guess was 14.

  12. I was going to go with 13. Seems like I'm not alone.

Without trying to "game the question" (i.e. assuming you wouldn't ask unless it was something bizarre) I'd say about 25. I could go a little higher on that, but that's my guess.

  14. Probably something obscene, like 10.

    Looks 14-ish.

    Possibly 25.

    1009, obviously.

  16. Early 20s. I'll say 22. That's how she looks to me.

Having said that: Knowing comics artists' general lack of ability to draw a female character as looking like anything other than a supermodel (and I say this as a comics artist), I suspect that Lisandro and company are correct in their estimation.

  17. looks 21 or 22 to me

  18. I'd say 23, but that's such an 1980's swimsuit she'd have to be at least 45 by now!

  19. With women of 15-23 or so, it can be hard to guess their age on their looks alone - usually as soon as they talk you know. With a cartoon it's even harder. So I couldn't pin it down more narrowly than that 15-23.

    90. Remember the Chromebooks from Cyberpunk?

  21. Since she only has normally developed breasts instead of the usual monster gazongas, I am guessing 11 to 13.

  22. Fifteen years old.

Putting age aside, she seems REALLY TALL. There's not much in the frames for reference, but I'd say at least around 6 ft or so. Which would be odd for a 12 year old...

If she's a super heroine then I'd think she might even be 7ft tall.

Can you reveal a height as well when you disclose the age Jeff?

  24. They grow up fast these days. Try watching Gossip Girl someday and look for Taylor Momsen -- only 15, despite having seemingly impossibly long legs for that age.

  25. Physically, she looks about 13 to 14, but I have seen some late bloomers before.

I have to say, she look beautiful from a distances, but her face is something else - mostly her mouth! That mouth don't do her any justice. Her lips seem to push out to far to the right cheek. Otherwise, she rather cute.

  26. She appears to be around 16. The image of a young woman playing on the beach is often associated with adolescence. But I am assuming that since her age is the question she is either extremely young or extremely old. Both present a question, either the artist can be accused of sexualizing young girls or that our society holds to a unrealistic demand that woman conform to a unattainable beauty myth as they age.

Thats my rant for the day :)
