As a lifelong resident of Nottingham (as in Sheriff of ...) I must point out that the position of Sheriff of Nottingham has existed since the 7th or 8th century.
Therefore Doctor Strange is stealing the Sheriff's colours & costume.

Not only the colours, but that symbol on his chest seems to have been borrowed from the good Doctor's wardrobe. How strange.

I can't help but think about the recent BBC/BBC America Robin Hood show's Sheriff. Who is bald, and hilariously awesome and gloriously evil.

Convincing argument Chris, but hardly definitive. Ol' Doc Strange has traveled back in time at least as far as the era of the Pharoahs.
