this is an improvement

The logo for the first issue of Fight On! was my first attempt to make such a thing. I was shooting for something like the logo on the earlier D&D books, the one that always looked more "old west" than "fantasy" to me. But the results look kinda hokey on the printed page. Worse yet, I made the amateurish mistake of sending the logo to the editor as a .jpg file, which caused some ugly pixelfuzz. Here's the new logo I designed over the weekend.

  1. That looks AWESOME! So awesome, in fact, that I'll go over to ODD and post it there as well!

  3. Much better. I know people love that "old school books" logo look, but some things should be left in the 70's where they were born. The new logo looks "cool" without looking like it came off some Anime DVD cover.

  4. Very nice!

Are they going to full-color covers? Yeah, I know, the last one had the logo in green, but the art was b&w.

  5. I pretty sure doing full color covers is not a problem. The problem is getting full-color cover art.

I dig it. Although I was half-expecting you to use the Excalibur-font

  8. Sett: I'm not sure of the rights on that font. Both my logos use as their basis fonts that are free for commercial use. I'm trying to keep my nose clean.

  9. For what it's worth, I loved the old school font on Fight On! #1.

What was it, if I may ask?

The letter tracking is a bit awkward (some touch, some don't). I'd almost be tempted to add a smidge of "illuminated" decoration to the over-sized F.

  11. pith helmet: Thanks. Pointedly Mad is the name of the font I used to make the first logo.

  12. Not sure I can offer any constructive comments. I like this new logo; it's very well done. But it just doesn't "click" with me. Mind you, lots of stuff doesn't click with me, so that's no indictment.

The one thought that does occur to me is that perhaps every issue of Fight On! could have a different logo, which is nicely reflective of the diversity of old school gaming. We're not trying to build a "brand" here anyway, so why not run with that and go with a varied look for each issue?
