Boy, I suck at close-up type shots...

...but I wanted to show you these guys anyway.

IG-666 is an original Kenner IG-88 with hat made of Sculpey and robe made of a foam sheet from a craft store.  The tiny rubber chicken I found in an art store for a dime.  It fits in his claw perfectly.  I'm going to take another shot at crafting a decent hat and robe.  If I can produce satisfactory results at this scale I'll probably make the same get-up for my twelve inch IG-88.

The Shockmaster was made from a figure of the fat guy who weeps when the Rancor gets it in Return of the Jedi.  The trench coat with single shoulder pad was swiped from some Expanded Universe jabroni, while the helmet comes from one of the few Stormtroopers that are issued with removable headgear.  My buddy Pat put this guy together for me.  He also gave me the 12" IG-88 a few years back.  Dude's a pretty cool cat.

  1. Hell yes. Shockmaster needs some glitter on his helmet.

That's cool as all get up.

The secret to decent close-ups (for me anyway) is putting your camera on a tripod, even a really cheap one. I was shocked to discover that just about all cameras have a little threaded hole in the bottom to accept a tripod. (I guess this is only the case if your problem is shaky hands, but I assume it is.)

this image doesn't even need context to be amazing.

Failing to possess a tripod, I use both hands and rest them firmly on a solid surface. I use the Macro setting on my camera, and I breathe out slowly as I take the pic. The latter tip I learned regarding painting fine lines on miniatures, but it works here too.

You know, somehow these newfangled kudos such as 'epic win' don't do it.

The only way I could truely expalin the awesomeness of this is to quote Jeff Spicoli - "Oh Gnarley!"

And that background - those images are burned into my head. I still have scars on my hands from playing that game. What was its name?

  6. Tempest. Which, if you are willing to register and sit through commercials while it loads, you can play for free at Atari.com.

  7. Is that a picture of IG-88 choking his chicken in front of Tempest while an overweight stormtrooper watches?

That may be the greatest photo every taken

  9. A. The photo is awesome in ways that the universe has yet to define.
    2. The secret to taking macro photos is more than just tripods, it's an over abundance of light.
    Q. IG-88 has long been my favorite bounty hunter. Someday I'll do a post about the 5th grade bully on the bus who droidnapped him from me, literally 1 day after I received him as a present. (It still stings).

  11. The Shockmaster is one of the greatest, if not greatest, moments in professional wrestling history. Immortalizing him in action figure form just seems appropriate.
