...sixties Japanese Batman had the raddest rogue's gallery known to mankind.

Professor Gorilla!

The Mutant! a.k.a. The Man Who Quit Being Human!

Lord Death Man!

Go-Go the Magician!

Doctor Faceless!

All these awesome baddies can be found in the sweet reprint volume Bat-Manga! The Secret History of Batman in Japan. Since I just totally sold out to Amazon, you can click the thumbnail to the left to go directly to where you can order a copy. (Assuming I'm doing this product link thingy right.) Or order it from your local comics-type retailer. Or you can do what I did and borrow it from your library, assuming your local library is as supercool as mine.

  1. I have that book and it is incredible. It even reads back-to-front in true Japanese fashion. did a piece on the author a while back and he talked about the process of researching and translating the original comics.

  2. Very cool book and a great edition to the collection of any Batman, DC or tried and true silver age comic book fan.

The 'Go-GO Magician' bares a striking resemblence to the Flash rogue 'Weather Wizard'.

  3. Getting fresh with Lord Death Man is always a bad move.

  4. I now must do Lord Death Man for Halloween this year.

  5. My favorite illustration is Professor Gorilla!!!!

  6. I'll have to see that.

and the Urbana Free Library is super cool.
