Bakshi's Wizards is iconic for me. I think it's the reason I'm into D&D, fantasy, and just about everything else I'm into. It came out two years after I was born, but I've still probably seen it 15 times. And not just because of Ellinore.
How can you fail to love a wizard who smokes cigars with his feet?
Wizards makes a heck of a great game setting too. There is an incident that I had while DMing that still mortifies me (in a good way, of course) to this day:
Blackwolf made an illusory appearance to the party and one particular smart-ass refused to be intimidated. He said "Meh, your fly is down" to which I responded quickly "I'm not wearing any pants, elf!". That stopped the game for a few minutes with lots of laughter. :D
Looking for some adventure roleplaying in or around Champaign-Urbana, Illinois? I currently run the 1981 version of D&D every other Wednesday at Armored Gopher Games in Urbana. I also currently DM every Monday morning (4:30am-6:30am CST) online via Google+ Hangout. Email me at jrients/gmail/etc. for details.
Best game store in Urbana, IL.
"You should all review Jeff Rients threefold model to even begin understanding my superiour insight."
"Man, is there anything Jeff CAN'T do when it comes to gaming? This guy is like a critical 20 every roll. Jeff can bite the heads offa five game geeks, including their sorry-ass DM, and spit 'em into a large duffel bag ONE AT A TIME!...that's just the kind of messed up bastard he is! You think yer a gamer, punk? Well..do ya? Jeff will depants your weasel-ass right in front of your grandma."
Ah, yes. I remember Wizards. I still have the movie poster of Peace packed away somewhere.
ReplyDeleteagreed!
ReplyDeleteShould I be concerned that I own this. On. DVD.
ReplyDeleteI figured you were going for this one: http://www.filmbuffonline.com/FBOLNewsreel/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/StarBlazers4.jpg
ReplyDeleteIf that doesn't deserve to be an Encounter Critical setting, I don't know what does.
ReplyDeleteYeeeeeeeeees.

"You killed Fritz!" Ironic you should bring this up - the NPC Fritz in my D&D campaign just bought it last week.

ReplyDeleteIt’s ironic to me how often filmmakers use the latest technology to tell anti-technology stories. ^_^
ReplyDeleteWoah I had no idea this existed!

ReplyDeleteInteresting, I didn't see Cameron's film that way at all. The scientists/techies were the heroes.
