Early Ralph McQuarrie concept art for the series that never was.
A Return to the Stars

After a veeeeerrrryyyy long, and mostly unplanned, hiatus, Stuart and I got
together to play more Stargrave in recent days. It was good! It was also a
bit ...
I'm thinking of both how well that design would
ReplyDeletetranslate to slabs of plastic, and a couple of plastruct tubes, and the SpaceHack comic, where the
ship was an Enterprise with the saucer replaced
with a star destoyer.

ReplyDeleteYou know, I've been thinking about spaceships and sci-fi campaigns. Even if you don't have a ton of miniatures it might be worth the time and money to have a decent painted 3-D representation of the PC's vessel(s). Maybe it would contribute to the ongoing fetishization of spacecraft in sci-fi roleplaying, but it would also serve as good jumping off point for the players' imaginations.

It's crude parody when some comic guy marries the Enterprise to a star destroyer. When Ralph McQuarrie does it, then it's a work of genius. :)
