guess what I watched on the TV today?

The Citizen Kane of stupid nerd movies, that's what!

I know a lot of folks think Monty Python & The Holy Grail is all played out, but personally I have never, ever gotten sick of it.  Sure, quoting vast chunks of it in the middle of a run is gauche, but the same could be said about any lengthy quotation or digression.

  1. I'm tired of hearing nerds quote it. I'm not tired of actually watching it. :D

  2. Hmm is Citizen Kane the Holy Grail of classic movies?

But I agree Holy Grail and Life o Brian are quite evergreen.

  3. Given the Easter holiday, Life of Brian seems more appropriate.

But I here you on the quotation.

Seen Spamalot yet? The touring show that's coming through my campus sold out before I could grab tickets.

  4. My wife loves this movie. I think it's actually one of the best D&D movies ever, IMHO.

  5. One of the funniest movies ever, in my opinion.

The best parts are the ones nobody ever bothers to quote- sure the sparrow bit is funny, and so are the French insults, but I'll take the bit about Tim's bridge, and the part about Lancalot's insane murderfest and that effeminate prince any day.

  6. The great thing about Holy Grail is catching things that you missed that last 9,999 times you watched it. I know it took be about 20+ viewings before I saw that Sir Bedivere was tying coconuts to swallows before the mod brought the witch to him.

  7. My fondest memory of this movie was watching it for a grade.

After wading through a difficult final exam, the one question from the exam appeared:

    What is your favorite color?

  8. I dragged my wife to Spamalot at National Theater. Although she denies it to this day she was giggling during the French Knights bit.

I still to this day judge people by how they perceive Monty Python, and especially Holy Grail. Petty, yes. But rather telling nonetheless.

  10. I introduced this movie to my kids in the last year. Truly a classic.

    Happy Easter!

once, back in shool, we had to go through the whole middle ages with barely enough time. so the teacher came and showed us this movie, commenting about how most of it was accurate in some way.
still, I will never forget the faces of the people who did not know it before.
