In case you hadn't heard RPGBloggers.com is a new blogging network full of lots of cool people. It's still going through a few growing pains and back-end issues, but I really like being able to see all those neat-o feeds in one place. I just wish more of the member-bloggers would make use of the Old School tag. Right now it's just me. I know I'm not the only one talking about this stuff!
If you're an old school blogger (or any other RPG blogger for that matter) who hasn't joined the network, I'd encourage you to give it a try. It's super easy to sign on and it definitely adds a little to your traffic.
Mince Pie Fest 2024: Waitrose No 1

These often get picked as the best supermarket mince pies by the gutter
press, so let's see. The pastry has a good texture, firm but also soft, but
is mayb...
It's actually not as easy as you might think to join up. The RPG Bloggers gatekeepers are quite picky about what exactly constitutes an RPG blog.
ReplyDeleteI was added after only 3 days worth of blogging :S
ReplyDeleteAs for old school gamers. I'd use the tags if I could work out what I'm supposed to do to get it worked :)
Hmmm, maybe my experience with RPGbloggers is not as universal as I assumed. bob, I can't tell what you're using for blogging software. Surely we can find someone who can advise on tagging your posts.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I was told that candidate blogs needed to be purely focused on RPGs -- no writing about your favorite summer movie, no updates about your cat, no entries about geeky topics peripherally related to RPGs. It bummed me out, to tell the truth -- our hobby is small enough as it is. Why not reward the small subset of the small subset that chooses to blog?
ReplyDeleteThanks for mentioning the "Old School" tag, Jeff. I've used the "Legacy D&D" tag but I'll also include "Old School" in posts going forward.
ReplyDeleteMore generally, it'd be great to see more of the old-school friendly blogs get on board with RPGBloggers. It's a great opportunity to bring old school games to wider attention!
@patrickwr
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Have you suggested they syndicate only posts from your blog tagged "gaming" or "rpg" or somesuch. My blog is 90% gaming at the moment but I had them set me up that way cos I do post the odd bit of bad poetry or nerdcore....
Max: Great idea, I'll see if I can craft an appropriate feed. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure if you can jump the (I think minor) technical hurdle of only providing RPGBN with a feed of your gaming-related posts, writing posts on other topics doesn't bar you from entry. Look at Critical Hits itself: They blog on all sorts of geeky stuff, but only the RPG posts show up on RPGBN.
ReplyDeleteObviously that's not an official answer, but I think it's accurate.
My blog is about all sorts of stuff. I just submitted the RPG feed for their considerations, and they accepted it.
ReplyDeleteNow I need to figure out what tagging means in technical terms. As far as I know there's no "tagging" within RSS 2.0 feeds.
@Max and @PatrickWR:
ReplyDeleteWhen Patrick applied, that's all we asked for: an RPG-only feed. We were happy to include RPG Die Hard if we had that feed, and I said as much in my email.
And for my part, I misunderstood what exactly the RPG Bloggers crew was asking for, to my detriment. Apologies if I came off as pouting just now-- I'll get to work on an RPG-only feed and re-apply.
ReplyDeleteJeff: Weird timing. I was just kicking around doing a Greyhawk feature once a week on my blog!
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I think its just my inability to use and understand tags after years of using categories that have stumped me on this one. I'll go and peruse Dave's email from the other week and see if I can get it working.
ReplyDeleteI saw your banner and your comment here and decided to try to join it also. It seems like a cool network.
