Ships 1 to 6 are the silhouettes for the Judges Guild versions of various standard ship types. Ships 1 and 2 are the vessels your PCs are mostly likely to be operating when the Imperials show up in the system with Ship 7.

LOL, That is simple, concise and awesome. The Azhanti High Lightning is the first ship outside of the Imperial Star Destroyer whose visual appearance made my friends go, "Holy CRAP! Look at the size of that thing!"

ReplyDeleteI cobbled it together a few years back by scanning and resizing the silhouettes.
And that's one of the reasons I prefer the original, just books 1, 2 and 3 Traveller.

I like that a turret on #7 is about the size of the engines on #1. Scary!

Heck, the mortgage on the break room of #7 is probably higher than the entire #1 ship.

SIZE does matter...
ReplyDeleteThe thing I found a tad unlikely with these was simply that the merchant ships were all pretty small in size. In a 'hard' scifi setting like Traveller's Imperium, I'd have been expecting huge bulk freighters, considerably larger than the military vessels. However, perhaps that's just me... :)

In my Traveller universe I assume that the Jump 1 mains in the Imperial core are worked by 5 or 10 million ton megafreighters and the X-boat network is plied by J4-capable million ton vessels. The merchant vessels on the chart are simply the ones that scale down to PC level heroics, just like the Yacht is a typical noble vessel but a wealthier member of the staristocracy might own a custom 1,000 or 10,000 ton vessel.
