The flame-haired lady on the right here is one of the earliest arcane spellcasters on record, the Witch of Endor. You'll find her in the Old Testament, in the 25th chapter of the first book of Samuel, where she conjures up the spirit of the prophet Samuel for an anxious King Saul. Art by William effin' Blake.
Actually, it's 1 Samuel 28.
ReplyDeleteDang. How did I do that? I had my Bible open in front of me so that wouldn't happen.
DeleteA '28' looks like a '25' under many circumstances, especially if you don't have infravision.
DeleteBlake's orc is the only one I will use in my games.
ReplyDelete...I've considered doing a William Blake's Seven game, but I still can't figure out what it would be.
'William Blake's Seven' is a pretty gnarley concept, but yeah, I'm having trouble visualising that. Both were outsiders... both English... maybe it could involve fanging around London with a bunch of chimneysweeps having visions and doing low-paid etching work for more successful artists... shit, that could really take-off!
DeleteExactly the sort of activity that the church forbids.
