  1. Can't go wrong with one of the dudeliest Captains in the history of skirt-chasing :)

Still the best starship Captain ever. Though Malcolm Reynolds comes in a close second.

Really, what is the point of going into space at all if you don't shag the hot space babes?

  3. Well, Mal explored that question, after a fashion, by not shagging Saffron and therefore surviving :)

Of course, Kirk would have found a way to [insert your own naughty "have his cake and eat it, too" joke here].

Yep, that's why Kirk just edges out Reynolds for the lead.

Though Reynolds did sleep with the space hooker, so he gets points for that.

  5. I agree wholeheartedly with this line of thinking.

And she was a groovy space hooker, rest her soul. :(

Oh yeah, THAT space hooker. For a second there I was lost because Mal never got with Inara that I could remember. Shootout at the OK Brothel episode. I gotcha now.

    Interesting Firefly related comment...

Go back and watch the Patriot with Mel Gibson. Adam Baldwin (Jayne Cobb) plays the Loyalist dude. After watching Firefly you see the role in a whole new light. Much funnier and impossible to take seriously.

  8. When Kirk delivered his patented double-axe handle to the back (after his shirt had been "ripped off"), you were done for.

Yeah, Joss has a tendency to kill some of his most likable characters, the bastard.

That is exactly why he is my master now.

And Kirk would slap both Picard and Riker silly and take their women.

Now a fight between Kirk and Reynolds, that would be something to see.

  10. The best fighting move the Captain Kirk had to offer, though, was his awesome Captain Kirk Ass Launch.

In this maneuver, the wily Kirk would, half-turned-away, simply launch his ass directly at his opponent. Given that Kirk is a healthy lad devoid of mutations, his body remained attached and just sort of flew along for the ride.

This inxexplicable (but doubtless brilliant beyond my humble comprehension) maneuver can be spotted a couple of times through the show's history. One particular fight where I remember it explicitly is the corridor fight with the phony Andorian in Journey to Babel (Kirk misses, and ends up just sort of launching his ass at the wall, but it all works out ... a maneuver that powerful is bound to be tricky).

I think we can officially say that everything is on the internet:

Didn't E. Honda or T. Hawk have a similar maneuver?

When I made the post above, I hit the PUBLISH YOUR COMMENT button with the thought "heh, knowing this crowd we'll have a YouTube link any minute," but really I didn't seriously believe it :)

I agree about Riker. With Picard, I like to think that (TOS era) Kirk would just get a boyish smirk from looking at a grown man in his pajamas, and pretend to be respectful while stifling a laugh.

And then, a few years later (subjective) the laugh would be on Kirk when he'd be issued his own grey jim-jams in lieu of a uniform, as seen in ST:TMP! Argh!

Yeah, I like to pretend that the stuff after the original series never happened.

Not that the newer stuff is terrible or anything, but I think they really missed what made Star Trek so much fun. Which is mostly hot space babes and goofy fisticuffs.

And mini skirts SHOULD be standard military issue, dammit.

Also notice the Ass Launch didn't really work that well, as it got Kirk stabbed in the back. Although Kirk is so awesome, he STILL WON THE FIGHT. Let's see Picard do THAT!

  15. I can honestly say, you just can't beat the power of the Shatner.

  16. Personally, I love all pre-Voyager Treks equally, for different reasons.

And Biff, as for those standard-issue miniskirts, I have two words of warning with which to remind you: "the skant."

I guess you've gotta give a little to get a little.
