Over at theRPGsite a fella named Wil asked people to list all the RPGs they've played at least once. Here's what I came up with off the top of my head.
D&D '81 Basic/Expert
AD&D 1st edition
Boot Hill (2nd edition)
Gamma World (2nd edition)
Gangbusters (1st edition)
Star Frontiers
Marvel Super Heroes (Basic, 1st ed)
D&D '83 Basic/Expert
Ghostbusters
Twilight 2000
AD&D 2nd edition
Call of Cthulhu (3rd edition boxed set)
MERP
MechWarrior (1st edition)
Traveller
Shadowrun
A Palladium-powered Dr. Who game
HERO System (4th edition, mostly Champions)
FUDGE
Mekton Zeta
Pendragon
Toon
Call of Cthulhu (various 4.x editions)
the big black boxed 'D&D Game' basic set
Top Secret (1st edition)
Over The Edge
D&D 3.0
QAGS
Bad Attitudes
Wuthering Heights
Heroes Unlimited
Savage Worlds
Blue Rose testdrive
Feng Shui
Mutants & Masterminds 1st edition
d20 Modern
OD&D
Risus
Encounter Critical
Iron Gauntlets
D&D 3.5
I wouldn't be surprised is someone like Pat or Don pointed out something I've missed.
I can't even begin to fathom making my own list today, but here's our overlap (that is to say, the games from your list which I have also played):
ReplyDeleteAD&D 1st edition
Gamma World (2nd edition)
Gangbusters (1st edition)
Marvel Super Heroes (Basic, 1st ed)
D&D '83 Basic/Expert
Ghostbusters [[1st and - ew - 2nd]]
Twilight 2000
AD&D 2nd edition
Call of Cthulhu (3rd edition[*])
MERP
Traveller
FUDGE
Pendragon
Toon
Call of Cthulhu (various 4.x editions)
D&D 3.0
Savage Worlds
Risus
Encounter Critical

My own list would be startlingly different from your own; we seem to have only very faint overlap on the RPGs that have rocked my world the hardest (on the other hand, three crucial games - Ghostbusters 1st, Gangbusters 1st, and Coc 3rd - are the middle part of our gaming MasterCard logo).
Note also that many of the games on your list I have played, but in other editions (I never did play original Top Secret, for one example, but I played the later SI edition). And in many cases I've played other editions of the same game in other directions (I think I've played _every_ CoC edition, and every Gamma World through 4th).
[*] I have played CoC3rd from the GW hardcover (which is just the box booklets, plus supplement, bound together). This is still my preferred edition, though I love 4 and 5 just fine.
[note] I removed Mekton Zeta because I'm not 100% sure if I really did play or if I just made a character and some mecha. Our group was playing at the time, and I was in two Mekton campaigns in that year, but I don't recall if any of them switched over from Mekton II, or if we just discussed maybe doing so.
Howdie,
ReplyDeleteI've been reading your blog for a week or 2 now, and I must say- keep up the good work! I figured a list of my own would be a good introduction. Here's what I've played over the years:
D&D Basic/Expert
TMNT
After the Bomb
Heroes Unlimited Revised
Ninjas and Superspies
Systems Failure
Rifts
AD&D 2nd Edition
AD&D 1st Edtion
Earthdawn
Shadowrun
Toon
Bug Hunters (Amazing Engine)
Robotech
Vampire Dark Ages
Homebrew Pirates game
Homebrew Dragon Warrior game
Star Wars (West End)
Alternity
Gamma World
DC Heroes
I'd say over 95% of actual time spent gaming was with:
TMNT/After the Bomb- playing and running
AD&D2- playing
Earthdawn- running
Here's the ones I've owned at some point, generated some characters, read the book, etc, but never played in or ran:
Splicers
Chaos Earth
All Flesh Must Be Eaten
Ork!
Hollow Earth Expedition
Iron Gauntlets
Coyote Trails
EarthAD
BESM
JadeClaw
Savage Worlds
D20 Modern
Aberrant
Adventure!
Terra Incognita
Another Fine Mess
Star Frontiers
Probably missing a few I can't think of on both lists, but that should be pretty close. Right now the game I've got my sights set on for picking up is BASH Fantasy, and I'm trying to start up a regular campaign with either BASH, Hollow Earth Expedition, or TMNT/After the Bomb.
Welcome, wulfgar! The Evil DM was recently turned on to BASH. You might want to check out his blog. He's cool.
ReplyDeleteHey Jeff,
ReplyDeleteI actually stumbled onto the awesomeness of your blog while I was exploring the lair of the Evil DM. (Who I came into contact with while hanging around the forums over at Exile Games Studio). His Evilness is also the one who put me onto BASH.
That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteI tweaked this idea a little bit and posted it on the TT forums -- thanks for the inspiration, Jeff!
