Our group never used table maps nor miniatures, so all this time (40+ years!) I'd wondered why the writer had gone into such overly-detailed color descriptions. Talk about DUH -- <i>of course</i> it was for the benefit of somebody painting the things... and no doubt also provided a way to distinguish those particular figurines from that of a Generic Bearded Fighter, since a properly-scaled mini would have been a pricey affair. So you'd brush on light-blue skin for a Cloud Giant, et cetera.
